About Us

We will tell you the story of our development as skiers...

Our Story

We are twin sisters Kaidy and Keidy Kaasiku. We started engaging in sports under the guidance of our father at the age of 5. We began cross-country skiing training in the first grade, following the example of our older brother, under the coaching of Raido Rohi. Today, we are coached by Jaanus Teppan.

Since we were young, we have engaged in various sports such as swimming, orienteering, and athletics, but cross-country skiing has always fascinated us the most. We have been involved in this sport for 15 years now. Our best results come from the last season, 2023/2024, when Kaidy achieved 23rd place in the Falun World Cup 10km classic and 9th place in the U-23 World Championships in Planica in the 20km mass start freestyle. Similarly, Keidy's best results from the last season include 30th place in the Falun World Cup 20km mass start freestyle and 10th place in the U-23 World Championships in Planica in the 20km mass start freestyle. In the upcoming season, our focus is set on the adult World Championships in Trondheim and the Winter Universiade in Italy.

We haven't received an excessive amount of attention for being twins. We don't see it as a big problem either. We've never wanted to be in the spotlight, although moderate recognition is, of course, welcome. We'd rather have our results be the topic of conversation, rather than our similarity!

We haven't even considered the possibility that one of us might quit or somehow step away from professional sports. If we move forward, it will always be together.

Koos õpime Tartu ülikoolis kehakultuuri teaduskonnas. «Kuna oleme ülikooli vastu võetud sportlaste eritingimustel, siis see annab meile võimaluse õppida osakoormusega ning õppekava tuleb täita minimaalselt 30 EAPd aastas. See võimaldab sporti ja ülikooliõpinguid omavahel siduda.

A large part of our free time is spent on studying, because otherwise, we wouldn't be able to keep up with the curriculum. It's much easier to study and do schoolwork together. We've done everything together and in sync since we were little, and this has also brought us success in sports. We want to be better than each other. If we weren't involved in professional sports, we would like to work as coaches or physical education teachers. We've thought that this would make us happy. We believe it's important for children to get involved from an early age

to catch the sports bug and the joy of movement from a young age and carry it with them. It's this dream that actually drives us to study this field.

We live together in Tartu, and when we move back home to Aravete, we do so together. We are very family-oriented, and if we get a chance to go home, we never miss it. We are so grateful in hindsight that we got our driver's licenses while studying at Aravete High School. Even back then, we competed a lot and attended training camps, so it was quite difficult to fit in driving lessons. Fortunately, we managed, and now we mostly travel around Estonia by car.

Usually, we divide the driving so that one drives to the destination and the other drives back. When traveling abroad, of course, we fly, and there the coach takes on the responsibility. During the competition season and between training camps, we rarely get home. The first thing we do then is visit our grandparents who live nearby. The camps are long and tiring, and the fresh air at our grandparents' place in the countryside gives us new breath and energy. We also often try to train on our home trails, as they are away from the city noise, allowing us to work quietly and at our own pace. When we're home, we don't usually laze around. We enjoy spending time outdoors, going fishing and playing disc golf. In the spring, we help our family with tree planting. We've had a strong work ethic from a young age because

professional sports are expensive, and we have had to contribute to earning money for equipment through work. We have never had to motivate ourselves extra to go to training. It has been a natural part of the training process. When you know the season's goal and what you are striving for, it is easy to go to training.

Following the success of the past season, we have set the goal for the next season to reach the top 15 in the team sprint finals and to compete for a spot among the top eight countries. In the long term, we are aiming for a place in the 2026 Winter Olympics, but the goal for the next season is to perform well at the World University Championships and the World Championships.

OUR COACH JAANUS

"I have been working with Kaidy and Keidy since the spring of 2018, when the non-profit organization Skispirit was founded. Since then, targeted training has taken place. Steady increase in workloads, purposeful and dedicated training are the keywords behind the sisters' progress. Every season, they become a step better. The 2024/2025 season is the first season in the adult category, and the goal is to definitely improve the 29th and 30th places achieved in Planica at the World Championships in Trondheim and aim for spots among the top 20. Since the sisters are both very evenly matched, we will also focus on breaking into the top ten in the team sprint throughout the season in both the World Cup competitions and the World Championships."
